Phil is an Operating Partner at Zoscales Partners and brings over 15 years of global leadership experience in private equity. This experience spans sourcing, underwriting, and management of buyout, growth capital, expansion capital, and venture capital investments, from early-stage opportunities to mid-market transactions.
Prior to this, Phil was a Partner, Managing Director & Member of the Investment Committee at Kuramo Capital Management. At Kuramo, he approved, managed, and led investing related activities of a team focused on regional and pan-Africa PE investments, and represented the firm on portfolio company boards. Previously, Phil had an 11-year career at GE Asset Management, a GE subsidiary with $120B in AUM where he was a Senior Portfolio Manager in Private Equity and led GEAM’s Africa Investing Program. Additionally, he served as a board director or board observer for GE investee companies as well as actively participated in capital raising activities and fund marketing for GE sponsored funds. Earlier in his career, Phil was an Equity Research Analyst at Credit Suisse in New York City covering large cap companies in Cable/Media/Telecom. Phil, a dual-citizen of Kenya and the US, received his Master of Business Administration with a Major in Finance from The Wharton School; his M.S. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and, his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from The University of Rochester.
